RHINEBECK — One of my favorite movies out is The Replacements, because of its balance of comedy and quotable moments. There is a part when coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) is telling Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves) that winners want the ball when the game is on the line.
Clichèd or not, that’s all I thought about when watching Clarkstown South’s Briana Keaveney will the Vikings to a 2-0 win over Kingston in the Class AA state regional semifinals.
Keaveney not only kept Kingston at bay through seven innings while her team tried to manufacture some runs, but she delivered the Vikings’ much-needed offense in the form of a two-run double. Keaveney slammed the door in the bottom of the eighth, completing an extra innings no-hitter to advance the Vikings.
