The question wasn’t “If?” when it came to Rye Neck’s Diana King winning a player of the week honor, it was, “When?”
In her final year with the Panthers, the NYU-bound senior takes home this season’s final weekly honor after a remarkable week on both sides of the ball.
While King, who will pitch at the next level, is known primarily for her arm, it was her bat that made the most noise this week… and that’s with her arm striking out 46 batters over four wins. King hit at a 14-for-21 clip (.667) with four home runs, two triples, a double and 13 RBI.
The right-handed hurler eclipsed the 200-strikeout mark for the season and recorded her 600th career strikeout earlier this season. Rye Neck is projected to be a strong contender for the Section 1 Class B title, but four-time champs Valhalla will do little to let it go easily.
Here’s a look at some of the honorable mentions from this week, sorted in alphabetical order:
• Cameron Lischinsky, So., Lakeland: 10-17 (.588), HR, 4 2B, 9 RBI, 10 R
• Anastasia Pennacchio, So., North Salem: .684 average for five games, 9 RBI; 4-1 W/L, 45 K.
Thank you to all who nominated this season!
