Thursday was a day of extremes. Some games hitters ruled. In other games, the person standing on the mound had the upper hand. (Rye Neck’s Diana King falling into that category.
And then there were games like Lincoln vs. Gorton in which a dominating pitching performance wasn’t easily evident because of the double-digit score.

Lincoln brought its bats to Thursday’s game against visiting Gorton.
Its mitts? Well, that was another story.
“It was ridiculous,” Lincoln coach Richie Fortuniewicz lamented. “My hair is going to turn gray or fall out.”
The cause of Fortuniewicz’s distress were the 12 errors — yes, 12 — that his Lancers made.
Caitlin Storminger, who had three RBI, got the W — her third of the season — pitching a complete game and striking out 12.
“She held her composure,” Fortuniewicz said of the sophomore.
Kareena Merlo and Miaisa Hernandez each drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.
But the hottest bats belonged to Lincoln.
Senior Jesenia Munoz went 4 for 4 with a double, triple and four RBI.
“She can play,” Fortuniewicz said of Munoz, who’s normally a shortstop but, with Lincoln’s catcher absent, filled in behind the plate.
The score was tied at six before a seven-run, fourth-inning Lancer eruption.
Junior Ashley Rodriguez had two doubles and drove in three runs, going 3 for 3, on the day.
Senior Kevona Jackson, who usually doesn’t start but asked to, went 3 for 4 with a home run.
“Our bats really answered the call,” Fortuniewicz said.
