Here are some of my thoughts on what happened in today’s Haldane/Panas game.
It was the first game of the season for both these teams and my eyes were opened to the Panas Panthers.
I knew they were good, they gave Pearl River a run for their money last year but when I looked at this matchup on paper; I never thought that they would put up double digits on the reigning Class C champs.
The Panthers got very solid hitting led by Morgan Bogardus who went 3 for 4 on the day. Amanda Ragusa led the team with 3 RBI. Molly Roche was solid in the circle. She got a lot of movement on her pitches. She really kept the hitters off balance. The only hit that she allowed was a hit to right field.
Regarding the reigning Class C champs, this is going to be a very interesting year for the Blue Devils. One of my big questions for this squad, and if you read the Haldane scouting report from earlier today, you know what it is. They’ve had a very nice security blanket in Chelsea Lisiktos in the circle and now, they’re trying to figure out who will be the main pitcher. When you have a young starter like Marley Cheflo, it takes a while.
But one one of the best quotes that I’ve heard and that was from coach Nick Lisikatos, to paraphrase, it’s not about how you start, but how you finish. He’s absolutely right about that.
We shall see how Haldane grows from this loss.
Then we shall see if Panas can keep this up, especially with the teams that they face in Class A.

Nice season opener for the Panthers.Look for contributions up and down their lineup, they are all capable of hitting for power.
As we all know in order for teams to be successful it is all about pitching…....pitching….......pitching! There are some new young faces in the circle this year in Section 1. It should be interesting.
