Haldane vs. Frewsburg (Section 6), 10 a.m.
Elmira Notre Dame (Section 4) vs. Greenwich (Section 2), 10 a.m.
My thoughts what Haldane could potentially do today as I look outside my window to the wet conditions in Lake George:
Haldane vs. Frewsburg (Section 6): I did a little bit of research on Frewsburg before I drove up here and they’re a scrappy team. You don’t win the regional title in 9 innings to get here and not be scrappy. But they’re coming up against a very determined Haldane team led by Chelsea Lisikatos. They’ve been on an incredible run through the state tournament and I don’t expect that to change. From what I’ve read up on Frewsburg, I don’t think they’ve ever seen a pitcher like Lisikatos. Prediction: Haldane 6, Frewsburg 2
Elmira Notre Dame (Section 4) vs. Greenwich (Section 2): In many ways I would tend to lean towards Greenwich BUT I saw what Elmira Free Academy did to Pearl River and being that Elmira Notre Dame comes from the same neck of the woods, I wouldn’t be shocked if Elmira won this game. Prediction: Greenwich 4, Elmira Notre Dame 2- only because with the weather conditions, Greenwich could play this field a little bit better.
Finals: Haldane vs. Greenwich (Section 2): This has been a long time coming for the Blue Devils and I really don’t see any reason that the Blue Devils don’t bring this home to Section 1. Prediction: Haldane 4, Greenwich 2
My thoughts on John Jay-EF in this tournament:
Their semifinal game should be getting ready to start and I really think they have an excellent shot to win this game. Ever since the Section 1 championship game, their bats have been on fire. The Patriots have scored more runs then anyone in remaining in this tournament by a mile, a total of 23 runs. Farmingdale upended reigning state champion Bay Shore but I don’t think they’ll be able to handle the Patriots. So they’ll move onto the finals and face Cicero-North Syracuse. As good as the Patriots have played, here’s where I will disagree with Hallie. CNS has a great way of making adjustments from one match up to the next if you face them twice. Last year, North Rockland faced them in the semifinals last year and had them on the ropes as we all remember but they won the game then went on to lose to Bay Shore. As good as JJEF as been playing, I think this might be CNS’s year. So I think CNS will be the new Class AA champion.
Hey, it’s just my opinion.
