As we get ready to begin just to set the scene; there are 4 fields and right behind me is where the other semifinal is taking place. I’ve Tony Toronto to my left so I will get the score from them. North Rockland is the visitor and Krystn Benson will be in the circle.
Update 1: In the top of the first inning, The Red Raiders were retired in order. Brentwood coming up.
Update 2: The Red Raiders survive a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first. No score through one full.
Update 3: In the top of the second, the Red Raiders are again retired in order on 3 straight fly outs. Still no score.
Update 4: In the bottom of the second Shaakira Samad had a two- run double to right center. Brentwood 2, North Rockland 0.
Update 5: Top 3, Brentwood 2, North Rockland 0.
Update 6: In the bottom of the third, Huge DP by Destiny Jones in right field to double off Kristen Flint. In the top of the 4th, After a judgement call that a catch by the Brentwood left fielder was ruled a catch, the Red Raiders go down in order. Still 2-0 Brentwood.
Update 7: Bottom 4, Benson’s 1st time retiring Brentwood in order. Still 2-0 Brentwood but trust me folks, the Red Raiders are pissed.
Update 8: Top 5, still 2-0 Brentwood.
Update 9: Pitching change for NRk; Welsh comes into pitch with a runner on first.
Update 10: After a hit batter, and runner’s on 2nd and third; Welsh gives up a two-out two-run single to Kristen Flint. Colleen Rivers got on via a sac bunt and on a throwing error by Heather Hansen allowed the run in. Erica Edwards followed with a 2-run double. 7-0 Brentwood through 5.
Update 11: In the top of sixth, the Red Raiders were rtired in order. In the bottom of the frame, Brentwood leaves 2 stranded. 7-0 Brentwood through 6.
Update 12: The game is now final. Brentwood 7, North Rockland 0. PR will start in about 15 minutes. Brentwood pitcher Nicole Flint through a perfect game.

I was afraid of this. I thought that between Welch and Benson, that they would be able to shut down Brentwood, with NR being able to squeek out 1 run. Now, late in the game and down by 2 runs, it might be over. Flint is really tough in games, especially late in the game. Getting 1 run was going to be a challenge. Now needing 2 just to tie it up? I think that it might be over for the Red Raiders. Great Season for North Rockland and they should be very proud of their accomplishments. Now comes the Pearl River vs. Victor game, which I am still going to predict will not be as close as many think. I just feel that Victor is more “Battle Tested” than Pearl River, and with such, will win this game. (PS – I also will continue to say that Chenango Valley in Class B will “Run Away” with the Class B Championship this year (not even close). Debbie – Your thoughts?
7-0 Brentwood thru 5? Good Night everyone, the party is over and that fat lady has sung. Now its up to Pearl River to keep our Section 1 hopes alive, which is extremely doubtful.
Debbie – Whats the score on the other AA Semi Final Game between Columbia vs. Fairport?
Why didn’t Sam Welsh start. If the coach was saving her for the finals, she should have remembered that you first have to win to continue. Did Benson pitch herself into a jam and that’s why they put in Sam in the 5th?
lifesapitch. The article said Welsh came in with a runner on first (Did Benson pitch herself into a jam and that’s why they put in Sam in the 5th?)
Benson had alot of help from the umpires. She was being squeazed so tight that the only place she could get a called strike was right over the middle of the plate, They did get any calls on the corners. When NR was a bat they had a different strike zone.
Sorry, should have read Didn’t get calls on the corners.
I completely agree pick’r off.
You’ll see my complete thoughts once I finish my stories.
Life’s a pitch, great second guessing you’re a genius. If NR had pitched Welsh you’d probably say why didn’t they pitch Benson. And if PR pitched Dinet you’d say they should have pitched O’Flynn. I would guess you haven’t seen either one of the pitchers pitch at all this season
North Rockland wasn’t beat by Brentwood they were beat by the Umpires. Benson and Welsh pitch their game…not the game the umpires called, had a different agenda, they took North Rockland completely out of the game with a miniature strike zone and left our pitchers unable to get a called strike. North Rockland played a fabulous season and they should be very proud of the season and the way they played this year.
pick’r off..you can’t blame the umpires when you are no hit/ perfect game. The umpires for these games are rated the very top in their region. Brentwood scored in two innings. How was the umpiring in the 4 innings Brentwood didn’t score. The game was 7-0 not 1-0.
when the calls are different on the same exact pitch you can … and NR pitchers had a consistant strike zone set for them that was right over the the plate and not where else, Brentwood pitcher on the other hand were getting stike and ball calls on the the same exact pitch. The inning that they did score in their hits were fielded and if you weren’t there you wouldn’t know what a joke of the 3 umpires were. North Rockland players, parents and coaches expected to have a tuff but fair game against Brentwood. They didn’t know they needed to beat the umpires too.
Joe B – Did you read Debbies post about the game… sorry to say but the umpires at this game were the worst I’ve seen at this level of play. (I’ve seen 100+ games per year for the past 7 years.) If they were the best from their section I feel really bad for the players in the section they came from. To put it bluntly they S#%KED.
No, I’m not a genius… and yes I’ve seen all pitchers (Benson, Welsh, Dinet, Scrima and O’Flynn) more than once in my daughter(s) softball careers. I’m sure I’ll be bashed on this one. I just feel Sam Welsh would have had the edge knowing she’s the senior and this was possibly the last game of her HS career. Both are equally talented, I just felt (my opinion only) Sam may have had a little extra.
