Class A final

June
13

It was raining after Pearl River won their semifinal so the start time of this game has been pushed back. Now that the rain has started up again who knows.

Update 1: Pearl River is warming up right now through the drops. Katie O’Flynn again will be the starter for the Pirates.

Update 2: It’s about 5 to four and we’re about ready to start the game vs. Floral Park.

Update 3: Top 1: After a two-out double to Melissa Correa, O’Flynn gets out of it. No score as PR comes up to bat.

Update 4: Bottom 1: Krystina Poloni got a two-out hit to center but the Pirates got nothing else. After 1, no score.

Update 5: Top 2: Allison Bostrom got a two-out hit for Floral Park but they failed to score. No score.

Update 6: Bottom 2: The Pirates are retired in order. No score through 2.

Update 7: Pearl River survives a two-out triple by the pitcher. No score.

Update 8: After 3 full, still no score.

Update 9: O’Flynn got her first 1,2,3 inning. Still no score after 3 1/2 innings. PR comes up in the bottom of 4. In bottom 4, what a battle with Kaitlin Dinet. She had a 14 pitch ab and worked out a walk. But she’s left stranded. No score through 4 complete.

Update 10: After top 5, still no score.

Update 11: No score through five complete innings.

Update 12: Top 6: Back to back RBI singles by Sam Giovanniello and Melissa Correa. Followed by a single by Rachel Battle. Bostrom had an RBI single. Floral Park 4, PR 0.

Update 13: Bottom 6: Pirates retired in order. Dinet came in to relieve O’Flynn. Floral Park 4, Pearl River 0.

Update 14: Top 7: Side retired. PR needs a little bit of magic now. FP 4-0.

Update 15: Bottom 7: The game is now final. Floral Park is the class A champions. 4-0 is the final.

Debbie-What is the latest scheduled start time for the Pearl River vs. Floral Park Class A Championship Game slated for? (knowing that it is raining in Waterloo?)

Trivia Quesetion – Name the last time a State Championship Game was played “Indoors”? ANSWER (Dobbs Ferry played “Indoors” at West Point in the late 80’s)

  4. hotdog37

PS – Debbie – You can ask Tony Toronto about that one. I am sure that he remembers.

Trivia # 2 – Did the NYSPHSAA ever “Burn” an infield to make it playable? Answer – YES – At Newburgh in 1989 in the Eastchester championship game

3-0 Floral Park in the 6th. Good Night Pearl River – Its over

  7. hotdog37

4-0 now. still in the 6th. Pitching Change didn’t help PR.

  8. hotdog37

Debbie – Start Packing the “Pink Chair” the game is over, especially the way that the Floral Park pitcher is throwing

  9. hotdog37

Sam Giovanniello is DOMINANT – and she is only a 9th Grader

  10. hotdog37

Joe B – I must be that Kiss of Death – Sorry PR Fans

  11. hotdog37

Game Over – Pearl River lost 4-0 – Probably the most dominating pitching performance that Pearl River has seen in years.

I still don’t know why he started O’Flynn when he has Scrima and DInet?

  13. lifesapitch

Congratulations to both PR and NR. But most of all kudos to the PR and NR little league for developing these talented group of girls. More little leagues should realize the importance of these starter programs for the future of the HS sport.

    Hey lifesapitch,

Real class to second guess after the success that O’Flynn has had getting them there. All three pitchers are excellent and he went with the hot hand. Five shut out innings against the #1 team is pretty impressive. The girls should be very proud and the coach did a terrific job.

  15. joe b

lifesapitch..you should have coached these two teams. You seem to have all the answers.

  16. rclndbbfan

Correction – the six shutout innings against the #1 team and five shutout innings in the final!

  17. hotdog37

Now Joe B – Lets be nice and not bash anyone. Remember, this is all about the girls and both teams should be commended for an outstanding year. “Lifesapitch” has a right to their comment on here just as you do. So, lets play nice. Where are Debbie’s “Post Game Comments”????

  18. hotdog37

PS – Also, instead of all of us commenting on what Pearl River or North Rockland did or should have done, what everyone should comment on (including Debbie) is the outstanding pitching job that the Brentwood Pitcher (Flint) and the Floral Park Pitcher (Giovanniello) did against North Rockland and Pearl River respectfully. Yes, thsee 2 teams are not in out coverage area, but this is what everyone reporting on the game and commenting on the game should focus on. Historically and predominately, Pitching wins games for teams. The more dominanting the pitcher, the more likely a team will win. When a pitcher throws a Perfect Game in a State Semi Final game, like Flint did, then that is truly something to talk about (why in the world the Flint kid did not get picked for Gatorade State Player of the Year is BEYOND me [I would be the bank that Flint gets selected at the State Class AA Player of the Year by the State Sportswriters and Coaches Association over the kid who one the State Gatorade Player of the Year).

hotdog37, THANK YOU!!! I didn’t realize I had to ask permission to ask a simple question. I also said NOTHING about O’Flynn’s performance during the year. I’ve see her pitch and she’s impressive in the circle. It was a big game and she pitched her heart out. I’m not taking that away from her. Both Scrima and Dinet are seniors and Katie Scrima did go a great job last year. She also had the experience from last year. If you have excellent pitching three deep, then I was just asking why you wouldn’t go with another pitcher, just for the fact it was back to back games.

As far as the comment about me coaching. Last time I checked coaching a game was more than figuring out who’s going to be on the mound. I again NEVER questioned anything or commented on his coaching abilities,

Once again Great job to the girls of Pearl River and North Rockland. Regardless of what some may think. I am a fan.
