High school softball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Great softball Saturday, 7/5, in Pearl River

July
3

This came courtesy of Tayla Gardner’s mom and a Pearl River mom. Thank you ladies.:

Tony, There will be a great fast pitch tournament in Orangburg this weekend. It will be hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Rockland Thunder 18U coached by George Colby, consists of the following Rockland players: From TZ Brittni Alexander, Tayla Gardner, Kayla Meyer and Julie Pacino, and from Pearl River, Katie Scrima, Jackie Bruno and Krystina Poloni, Alyssa Cataldo from Suffern, and Sam Welsh from North Rockland. First game is at 12 at the St Thomas Aquinas field.

In the match up of the day, 4 p.m. in Pearl River. Katie Scrima will go up against Pearl River teammate Kaitlin Dinet of the Brewster Rockets. The Rockets feature Brewster hard-hitting first baseman Kim Bentson and hard-hitting catcher Lindsay Goff.

I suggest if you are a softball fan and live in Rockland County, head over to Pearl River for this game. If you are a softball fan and you reside in Westchester, make the trip. It is worth it to watch some of Section 1’s most outstanding players matching up. How often do you get to see this star quality playing together on one diamond.

For many of us, it will also be the last time we get to see Brittni Alexander, Jackie Bruno, Kim Bentson and Lindsay Goff play.

If I didn’t think that the parents would have me removed from the field, I would be there myself. I have to flip a coin as to whether I should chance attending. Just kidding parents.

    Joe B. –

Take the Palisades Parkway south to exit for Route 59 (Spring Valley). Take 59 to your first light and make a right, follow sign to Route 304 south. Take 304 south for about 1.5 miles. At your second light, make a left onto Central Avenue.

Take Central Avenue up the hill and once you hit the light at the top of the hill, you will see a CVS on your left and a Shop Rite across from the CVS. Just behind Shop RIte is Pearl River HS. So, go through the light (wait for it to turn green) and the HS entrance will be on your left just beyond Shop Rite. The softball field is above the football field.

The Pearl River parents will welcome you there, as always!

    Too Everyone;
This is a great fundraiser for good of a few very special young people. There are games being played all over Orangeberg, TZHS, PRHS, PRMS, STAC, Veterns Park is the central hub of all the action. Some of the younger teams will be playing there. There are quite a few Section 1 and Section 9 girls playing in this tournament, Hud Val Hurricanes, Congers Mustangs, O.C. Rage, Dutchess Divas.
The Journal News should donate some extra coverage to this event, its for a good cause and there will be some great softball being played this week-end. HOPE THE WEATHER HELPS OUT.

So, Softball Fanz, Tayla’s Mom, PR Mom, or whoever, The Journal News doesn’t cover these games, why don’t you let us know about some of the highlights.

  7. ROCKLAND SOFTBALL

As far as the 16u bracket of this tournament. The Rockland Rebels won the whole thing. The Rebels consist of all North Rockland girls. Three Varsity players Amanda Babcock, Krystn Benson and Tiffany Alliano. The rest comprised from the NR JV. They went 7-0 over the two days. They scored 47 runs and allowed only 6.

I did see Sam Welsh pitch on Saturday, she pitched very well in a tough 1-0 loss to Tradition from CT.
