Update (4:58 p.m.) Ali LaRue’s run-scoring single with two out in the bottom of the seventh gives South Glens Falls a 3-2 win.
Update (3:43 p.m.) South Glens Falls pulled even, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer by Amanda Perry.
Update (2:50 p.m.) I’m rubbing sunblock on my spacious dome as we speak. The sun is out, play is about to resume. (The rubbing sunblock crack was courtesy of my colleague and Knicks beat writer, Mike Dougherty. I think Mike is jealous because he still has his hard and does not tan as easily as I do.)
Update: A thunderstorm has delayed the game in the bottom of the first inning.
Pearl River took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Lorraine Schule came in on a wild pitch and Kaitlin Dinet delivered Jackie Bruno with a two-out single.
Even though Pearl River fell one run short, the ladies deserve congratulations for an outstanding season, especially the seniors. I had the pleasure of covering Pearl River in 2007 as the Rockland County softball beat writer, and once again this year, I had three Pearl River games – John Jay, Brewster and South Glens Falls.
The Pirates are one of the strongest programs in Section 1 annually, and Mike Carlacci is one of the best coaches in the state. His girls are always fundamentally sound, they can hit and they play the game with great passion. Based on their underclassmen, I feel Pearl River will be the team to beat in Class A next year.
Congratulations Pearl River on a great season.

Amazing season for Pearl River. Keep your heads up ladies, we are all proud of you out here in the Irish Riviera. All the little league girls idolize you girls. WAY TO GO!!!! GREAT SEASON!!!!
Cicero-North Syracuse lost to West Babylon, 3-0, in the Class AA State Semi-Final game and South Glens Falls lost to Aquinas, 5-3, in the Class A State Final.
Thanks Joe B for expressing what so many of us are feeling so well.
I am more of a baseball guy, and live in Pearl River. I don’t know who these people are. I did not understand Hallies comments. Correct me if I am wrong on this.
Hallie is the coach of Yorktown?
Cassie is a Pearl River player who got MVP?
IF these 2 statements are true… Hallie should be embarassed that she has nothing better to do than run to the computer the second Pearl River lost to voice her bitter obnoxious opinion. Does Fio Nardone know what he has as a coach there in Yorktown?
Lynharts blog entry shows absolutely NO CLASS, and is a horrible role model for her players.
Her Jealousy and envy was obvious to all who read her statement. 2 Terrible qualities to have as a person .
She is not the Yorktown coach or Pearl River player.
Hallie,
as someone that was just interested to see if Pearl River won, I see your name and opinion all over the place. Who are you? What is your job? Who is Cassie?
And why is this blog not about Pearl Rivers great season?
since this blog is about pearl rivers AMAZING season, i think its absolutely rediculous that you all are talking about the gatorade player of teh year and arguing over this. I feel you are all acting like 5 year olds and you dont appreciate te actually game. Everyone is too worried about the awards and dont appreciate the game that is being played. Pearl river deserves alot of praise for their hard work and attitude toward this game and people should step back and just take it all in.
pearl river has had an amazing season and should be praised for their hardwork and desire. They have been the first team since 1999 to make it to the states final four. This accomplishment is unbeleivable. As an insider to the team i know that they have wanted this since the day after their 2007 season ended. they have worked harder then any other team in this section and have been through alot of obstacles. Their are models to all younger girls and have alot of class when they play. Like most teams they love each other like a family as you can tell from their reaction after the lost that semifinal game in binghamton..their wasnt a dry eye on that team. But those tears werent because they losted the game, they all know they had an amazing season and an amzing last game it was because South Glen Falls took away the chnces for this family to play one last time together. They are an amazing team and have accomplish alot of tasks that many teams wouldnt be able to. All 8 seniors on this team will be missed dearly and its sad to see them go but they all have great futures ahead of them. Pearl River you were a pleasure this season good luck to all th seniors and returning players..kick butt next year!
To the 2008 P.R softball team family, Thank you for a wonderful season! Your best days are in front of you!
All, thank you ‘Curious’ for bringing back to focus what this article was really about and stop the banter on the politics of picking favorite player awards!!
Being one of the senior’s dad, I know these girls set a goal at the end of last season, and set that priority day 1 of softball season this year, WIN THE SECTION! They worked hard, remained focused and achieved their goal, OUTSTANDING! They remained focused and raised the bar for themselves, WIN THE STATES! We all know the results but I still say OUTSTANDING!
This team proved to themselves, their peers, friends, family and young players that if you set goals, work hard, and remain focused, great results will follow. They are forever in the books.
I will truly miss this team, especially watching my daughter play in PR blue. She is just amazing to me. The 8 seniors will be missed but PR still has a solid roster to give next season a great run. As for my daughter, it is the end of one era and the start of another. She will be playing in college which I’m truly looking forward to watch.
BRAVO to the Pearl River Softball Team!!
Pearl River had a great team this year.
They learned teamwork, support, hard work, perseverence, grace under fire etc. When I send my daughters to play sports… these are the qualities that I hope are ALWAYS taught. These are the qualities that will take them far in life.
While individual awards are real nice, and scholarships are nice to talk to everyone about “my daughter was MVP, my daughter is all county, my daughter is getting a scholarship”. However, it is the we statements that will get them far in life. “we worked hard as a team, we came together as a team, we helped and pulled for one antother, we all played our roles and were valued in those roles whether it was starting pitcher or backup outfielder, we stayed together through thick and thin, we did NOT point fingers and place blame” these are the qualities that will help kids learn how to succeed in every facet of life, whether it is a marraige, business world, any workplace, groups etc. I sure have a good feeling that ALL of these ladies will do real well in life.
Thanks for the memories,Pearl River softball team did a wonderful job. The team work these girls have displayed is terrific. Thank You Coach Carlacci, the team and the parents for being such a support system to my daughter through out the years.A second family with memories not soon to be forgotten. Good luck next year to all the Seniors, returning players GO PIRATES. WE LOVE YOU !
