My predictions

June
5

I know you’ve probably wondered where I’ve been with my predictions while Tony has been doing all the work. Well, it’s simply because of my scatter brain while working two jobs.

Well, I’m going to make my predictions on Class A and B since there are only two Rockland teams left standing in the tournament. I won’t give a score because my own personal history has shown me to be wrong more times than not.

Class B: No. 1 Albertus Magnus vs. No. 3 Kennedy at 5:15 p.m.

After seeing these ladies today, if they continue to produce on offense the way they do; I think that the Falcons will repeat as Class B champs. But I have seen high flying offenses get squashed by good pitching so if Kennedy’s pitching comes through and quiets the bats; this could be a lot closer than most of us will think.

Class A: No. 1 Pear River vs. No. 10 Brewster at 5:30 p.m.

Now this should be a very interesting game. The Pirates have been struggling for hits as of late and this goes back to the end of the regular season. They only managed two hits against Suffern. They did get 10 against Harrison and then seven against Lakeland but are not getting that key hit. Do I think that Pearl River should win this game? Yes I do; but the way Brewster’s been playing lately and with Kristen Silman using Lindsay Goff’s bat, the Bears could make this interesting. The Pirates pitching will definitely keep them in this game.

Good Luck to everyone on Saturday.

I think it’s going to be Yorktown over Arlington, Brewster over Pearl River, and Kennedy over Albertus Magnus

Just a note to pass on: Leading off today: Jen Mineau threw her third perfect game of the softball season and Hoosic Valley extended its winning streak to 45 games yesterday with a 1-0 win vs. Schuylerville in the Section 2 Class B semifinals in Queenebury.

The Indians (20-0) have allowed two runs all year and posted 18 shutouts.

Mineau struck out 15 and didn’t allow a ball out of the infield, which isn’t surprising. As Greg Brownell noted in his game story, Hoosic Valley center fielder Eileen Farrell estimates she’s touched the ball only two or three times in game situations so far this spring.

Kennedy in a blow out over A.M.

I don’t get it! Why do most on this blog feel P.R. is soft.

#1 ranked Pirates bats come alive to smoke #10 “THE BEARS”.

    Ballfielder –

I don’t think anyone ever said Pearl River was soft.

I saw Pearl River against John Jay and Gaby Torzilli last month. Pearl River hits 1 through 9 and they have two fine pitchers in Kaitlin Dinet and Katie Scrima.

While Pearl River has the problem of playing mostly a Class B schedule, what Mike Carlacci does is schedule the toughest non-league games he can find.

Coaches have this option so I don’t buy the excuses that teams don’t have any control over their schedule.

The reason I used the word soft is because most predictions on this blog have ‘anybody playing PR that day’ winning. I agree 100%. The successful programs play stronger non-league schedules. I’m a big fan of Coach Carlacci. His teams play hard from the first pitch to the last. You will also notice that his teams are well coached in all facets of the game. They can throw, field and hit while other teams only have one or two of these skills mastered. A good example of this could be found this year with JJ/cross river and WP. Both teams success depended on strong pitching. Check the stats. Both teams batting averages were far below the other premier programs.

Tony who do you like for coaches of the year honors in each class?

having seen both kennedy and AM this year, i dont feel its going to be close AM much to strong, i would be surprised if kennedy has more than 3 hits in the game

Kennedy over AM – the Gaels have been playing outstanding lately and their bats are on roll. Even though AM has three pitchers to chose from, the Kennedy line up is definitely capable of hitting each one and coming out on top.

Arlington over Yorktown – Arlington has amazing all around players and will put up a tough game against Yorktown. I think their strength will bring them ahead in the final.

Brewster over Pearl River – Kristen Sliman’s bat has been coming alive lately, along with the several other power hitters in their line up. Although Pearl River is a very strong team, Brewster played a much harder schedule, which will give them a big advantage.

Where are the games being played? At North Rockland High School or somewhere nearby?
