How can Lakeland be seeded higher than Hen Hud. They lost twice to HH by scores of 10-0 & 6-1. Hen Hud had 15 wins to Lakelands 14. 3 of HH 5 losses were to AA schools 1-0 to NR & JJCR and 4-2 to Yorktown. On strength of schedule alone HH should be seeded higher than Lakeland.

  2. Tony Pinciaro

    Joe B. –
Head-to-head doesn’t matter and any Hen Hud wins against non-Section 1 teams don’t factor into the seeding,

  3. fan

Wtach out for Putnam Valley in B. They could be a sleeper. They’ve been inconsistant but they have alot of talent.

  4. The Voice

They might also have more AA wins than Hen Hud.

  5. Thomas Paine

    First round upset predictions, anyone?

In AA, I’ll go with Suffern (10) over White Plains (7) and Mamaroneck (15) over Scarsdale (2)

  6. Tony Pinciaro

    Thomas Paine –

Mamaroneck will not beat Scarsdale. Suffern beating White Plains would not be considered an upset.

  7. Thomas Paine

Suffern beating WP would not be considered an upset by me either, but they’re ranked 3 slots higher. Does that mean the seeding process is flawed?

I saw Mamaroneck and Scarsdale once each. Based solely on that, it seems to me that Scarsdale is way over-seeded at No. 2, but I guess it’s just one game and maybe they’re better than they were that day.

  8. Ballfielder

Thomas Paine…. why do you think Suffern can beat White Plains? I saw WP beat JJ/Gabe Torzillo this month. Coach O’Donnell and his soliders looked pretty good to me! I see WP easily making the Semi-finals as well as North Rockland. I do agree, Scarsdale is seeded to high at #2

  9. joe b

Hen Hud has 15 wins in section 1. Lakeland has 14 wins in section 1. Hen Hud played AA=No.Rock, Yorktown, JJCR, and New Rochelle. Lakeland played Yorktown (2) and MOUNT VERNON. A win over Mt Vernon means Lakeland gets the higher seed ? I’m not taking anything away from Lakeland. I stated earlier in the year when they lost to HH that they were a much better team than the team that lost those 2 games. I also said they will be a tough out come sectionals. Hen Hud plays Beacon today and a win would give them sole possession of thier League Title which includes Lakeland. Even a loss with thier head to head would leave HH as league champs.

  10. from the bleachers

With all due respect to Scarsdale, they are not a # 2. Just look at the team records of the teams they have played.

  11. Thomas Paine

    Ballfielder—

I’ve seen most of these teams once and that’s it. I know that Suffern is very good and, although WP was also very good when I saw them, they have been beaten a few times by teams I thought shouldn’t have beaten them (Scarsdale, maybe?). Basically, I looked at the games and tried to pick a few where the lower-seeded team had a good chance to win, and those were the two I came up with. Not really an in-depth analysis, just something to throw out for discussion.

  12. softballmom

Just heard Clarkstown North is playing White Plains Friday at 1:30 in White Plains

  13. bruug

What happened to Clarkstown North? I hear now that they are playing White Plains on Friday at 1:30?? Did they change the seedings? What happened to the Thursday game in defference to the Prom conflict?

  14. joe b

    Deja Vu

  15. joe b

Deja Vu all over again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Ballfielder

Hmmm… change is good for Arlington… bad for White Plains. Still feel North Rockland makes it to the Semi-final game.

  17. Bobsuruncle

    Joe b
If both HH & Lakeland win HH will have a chance to prove they should have been the higher seed. HH should win.

  18. joe b

Bobsuruncle … That is not the issue. HH won yesterday giving them 2 more wins than Lakeland, they won thier league championship over Lakeland and they beat Lakeland twice convincingly. And Lakeland will have the home field advantage. That’s the issue..However woulda, coulda, shoulda and ifs means squat. Good Luck to both teams. Should be a good game IF it happens.

  19. slapper

bruug—- White Plains and CN did a good thing by having a 1:30 start time on friday.Maybe they could have had the game on saturday. Neither team should have had to play on thursday because of prom night. This would have given both teams one less day to prepare. Unfortunately, some of the fans who would have come to the 4:30 start may not be there for 1:30. But then again its not about the fans, and the rest of the players from both teams who are not going to a prom and want to play ball….....its about the prom…..again.

  20. Koala Fan

    Joe B,

I don’t know anything about either team but, the section 1 rules stated this year that games played after 5/27 do not count. Maybe that is why Lakeland got the higher seed and the home field. If the games were played on 5/28, they would not count according to the rules. Just a thought, hope the info helps.

  21. Bobsuruncle

Joe B.. the point is it shouldn’t matter! HH should win and with Shanna B back I think it is a no brainer. I think they should win the section again!

  22. Ballfielder

    Slapper…
Playing on Thursday with one less day to ‘prepare’ is not a strong argument. Each team has played over 20+ games
already + has practiced the other days. If you need an extra day to get ready for a sectional playoff game than your team is in deep trouble! What about the parents that have daughters playing today but can’t make it because of work responsiblities. How would you feel if your daughter was playing today and could not be there? The solution both North and WP came up is very narrow minded. Can’t believe educators at these two fine schools could not come up with a better solution!

  23. slapper

Ballfielder…. Maybe you should run for the CN school board, get elected, and make the change in the prom schedule . This is the second year in a row that there has been a conflict with the prom and CN and the section playoffs. We are not talking about a regular season game here. They know the section schedule. It’s real easy, schedule the prom a week before the playoffs start, like alot of other schools do. This is a CN problem, it has nothing to do with WP being “narrow minded”. CN just does not get it! Sorry if you can’t make today’s game.I’ll be there!

  24. Ballfielder

    Slapper…

Glad to hear you will be there today to watch your daughter and her WP teammates. I’m sure most parents would agree, not being able to watch their daughter play because a coach feels he needs a extra day to “prepare” is narrow minded and selfish. That’s not the lessons I want my daughter learning from her coach. I guess your a good example of the outcome from your wise-crack reply!
    Good Luck today!

  25. HS Softball Fan

I hope when/if my daughter plays high school softball that her coach is more concerned with having the team prepared then what time might be convenient for the parents. There is nothing better than getting to see your children do something they are passionate about, but it’s just not that important to the game. There are a lot of parents who don’t get to see their children participate in after school activities because of their work schedules.

I can’t believe that we are even discussing this again this year. What is wrong with the people making prom decisions at North? It’s not just a softball issue. All spring sports are having playoffs this time or year.

  26. slapper

Ballfielder…... Thanks for the good wishes! They worked! What a great day to be at a game. The real issue at hand here is that 4 players let the rest of their team mates down by not being at the game today. I’m not really sure how much of a difference they would have made on the outcome of the game.I guess we will never know. White Plains hit well, played good defense, and got a nice outing from Lauren Sputo in the circle. I cannot understand how players cannot make a 1:30 game and still not have time to get to the prom. What a way to end the season. That’s 2 for 2. Keep up the good work CN!

  27. diamond sense

    Ballfielder,
I see you’re back at it. I knew it was only a matter of time. So you’ve decided to hide behind one screen name rather than two (“swingaway”), but with the same sorry agenda. It’s sad how ignorant you are about high school softball and high school sports in general. You continue to draw conclusions with little or no information. I suggest you go back and read your blogs under both names over the last two months. Maybe even you will get a laugh at how transparent you have been. Or maybe not.

  28. sandy

slapper if it is true that white plains refusedd to play the game on thursday to accomadate cn on prom night so they could have one more day to prepare, in my opinion that would be the worst case of sportsmanship a coach or AD could ever demonstrate.my guess would be that either has a daughter, so they could not imagine the tough decision these young ladies had to make. the top brass of section one softball should have taken the choice out of the hands of WP. the same situation is looming for a team in class b next week, if the team is fortunate enough to make it to the semi finals the other teams have already agreed to move the game to wednesday from thusday. being a parent of a senior on that team i would hate to see my daughter have to choose from letting her team mates down or missing her prom.

  29. Tony Pinciaro

    Ladies and Gentlemen –
First things first, White Plains coach Ted O’Donnell told me yesterday that the CN AD (Tess Brogan) called White Plains AD (Nick Panaro) after the seedings were revised and asked if the game could played at 1:30 p.m. to accomodate the senior prom. That was done.

O’Donnell said he was more than willing to do this because in past years, opposing teams agreed to move the game to an earlier start to accomodate his team. And, in each case, he told me all of his seniors played in the sectional game then left for the prom.

Don’t go criticizing O’Donnell, who is one of the best coaches in Section 1 and is highly-respected. Get you FACTS straight.

Last year, Albertus Magnus had its sectional semifinal 4:30 p.m. at Pleasantville and also its prom. Following the game, the seniors, and any underclassmen who were also attending the prom, left with their parents. Now, the Magnus seniors had to sit in rush hour traffic on the bridge, but they still made it to the prom.

Yonkers coach Carleen Gilot explained to my colleague last night that her seniors attended the senior prom Thursday night and came to school Friday so they could play in their sectional game at Arlington.

  30. sandy

tony if you are referring to me i started my blog with IF it is true. and IF it is true that CN requested the game to be moved to thursday and were denied by WP for the reason stated, than i stand firm on MY previous opinion. i have been reading your blogs for a number of years now and you have stated many personel opinions which is your right, as in your most recent blog. fortunately we all have a right to an opinion.

  31. Tony Pinciaro

    Sandy –

My comment said, “White Plains coach Ted O’Donnell told me yesterday that the CN AD (Tess Brogan) called White Plains AD (Nick Panaro) after the seedings were revised and asked if the game could played at 1:30 p.m. to accomodate the senior prom. That was done.”

I am not stating a personal opinion, I am stating facts. I covered the White Plains-C. North game yesterday, last year’s Albertus Magnus-Pleasantville game and I was in the office when the Yonkers coach called in her game.

Your comment was in response to posts by Slapper and Ballfielder. Not once did Slapper say that White Plains refused to move the game to Thursday.

  32. sandy

just re-read posts, my bad u r right. my point i was trying to get at was after all the controversary surrounding CN and there prom last year, at any point did anyone from CN ATTEMPT to move the game up a day and if not why not?

  33. Tony Pinciaro

    Sandy –

Originally, C. North was slated to play Arlington, but Arlington credited itself with one more loss than it actually had. The teams had agreed to play Thursday, but that changed once the mistake was noticed by the seeding committee.

Don ‘t know if CN AD asked to have the game moved to Thursday.

  34. pitcher

regarding prom, the school board doesnt make the date, the senior class officers plan on the day on the prom and they should have known that prom was going to land on sectionals. at yorktown, our class officers made our prom in late june so everyone would be able to go and that seniors wouldnt have to make a tough decision. They knew last year when they began planning prom when sectionals and states were and made sure not to schedule it during those weeks.

  35. slapper

Sandy If you are going to quote someone get your facts straight! That is if you can read, or remember what you put in a blog. I NEVER once said WP refused to play the game on Thursday. Tony P.,Thanks for setting the record straight,Your statement hit the nail right on the head. Also, you are correct about Coach OD. Your information was based on facts, not hearsay, like alot of statements made on this blog. Sandy, in case you never heard this quote before, and I’m pretty sure you have not,”THERE IS NO “I” IN TEAM.” Maybe you should take a trip to Clarkstown and teach the parents and players there what it means.

  36. sandy

slapper i never said WP refused to play on thursday i said IF. so obviously one of us has a problem with reading, sounds like you have the wrong one. not sure with no i in team comment is all about, but in re-reading some of your previous blogs it does not surprise me that i am a little confused. have had the oppurtunity to observe coach O D on many occasions over the years both as a parent and an opposing coach, i have nothing but the upmost respect for him as a coach and i stated that last year in a blog. meanwhile good luck to the WP girls the rest of the way.

  37. Bobsuruncle

it is very simple. this happened last year so EVERYBODY at CN should have been aware of the possible conflict and made appropriate plans. WP did the right thing by moving the game earlier. not optimal for the CN girls BUT plenty of time to get ready! Shame on the CN AD and everybody in the administration to allow this to happen AGAIN! Very poor judgement.
