In The Stands -

There is no question about it and coaches will say the same, you want your team to play a tough schedule because it prepares you for sectionals and state play. So what if your team has 5-6 losses heading into sectionals. If they are to quality teams/programs, then you know as a coach, that you did the best to have your team ready for the postseason.

Playing a cupcake schedule does not help your players and the inflated stats mean nothing. Unfortunately, it appears that stats play a role in whether a player is named all-section. Half the time, can you even trust the gaudy stats? I think it would be safe to say that there are many scorekeepers who don't know how to keep a book.

Word, Ballfielder. Tony, you do a great job covering as many games as you can. Parent should learn that the world does not revolve around their children - there are a bunch of other teams out there!! Keep up the good work, Tony!!

Can someone tell me what defines a good high school softball program? Is it better to play a hard or soft schedule? The most competitive leagues appear to be 1-B and 1-C. They have teams with overall records of .500, but from top to bottom all the teams are good.
However, there are teams that play a soft schedule and beat everyone and have a great record and then there are teams that play a hard schedule and have a losing record. In addition, this thought can also translate to player stats...what defines an all-county player?...teams that play a soft schedule..the team stats seem to be overstated because of the competition and teams that play a hard schedule..team stats seem to be understated as to how good a player is performing.

Tony P.
Why do you even bother acknowledging these parents whinning about their kid not getting enough ink from your paper! Maybe if they knew exactly what you did every day running around the county to different locations throughout the county they could better appreciate your efforts. I saw you yesterday at the Harrison game. You made a nice one-handed stop in foul territory while seated. Plus, you did not drop your pen or notepad! For the record my kid does not play for either team!

Eagle1 -

Eastchester has blown out the majority of its opponents. The two games that I would have like to cover - Pelham twice - I was not assigned. I would much rather cover an Eastchester game against a quality team than a 5-inning blowout.

No I did not..Sorry that I missed it. Still Eastchester gets very little coverage for a 17-1 team. however, I do enjoy reading your blogs. They are informative....Keep up the good work
