Harrison 4, Ursuline 3

May
13

The fireworks came in the sixth and seventh innings before Harrison thwarted Ursuline’s final comeback attempt.

Harrison’s Gianna LoDolce doubled home two runs with two outs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.

Harrison entered the game off of consecutive shutouts from ace Ashley Marino – three-hitters over Ursuline and Scarsdale. This made it 19.1 innings of scoreless ball from Marino and Breanne Arlotta, who got the start today. Arlotta kept Ursuline scoreless through 5.1 innings before Ursuline countered with a two-out two-run sixth inning. Lauren Iorio tripled and scored on a Cristina Fletcher, and Fletcher scampered home on a Nina Curto single, evening the score at 2-2.

Harrison regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out rally as Gianna LoDolce doubled in Ashley Lepino and Samantha Lagana. Ursuline drew to within, 4-3 on pinch hitter Meg Smith’s two-out RBI double.

In other Westchester/Putnam games of note Tuesday: Nicole Knox doubled in the top of the eighth inning to give Good Counsel an 8-7 win over Our Lady of Victory. … Lauren Sputo threw a no-hitter and struck out 15 in White Plains’ 3-0 win over Mamaroneck. … Yonkers swept Roosevelt behind pitcher Michelle Smith and Tasha Escobar, who hit a grand slam, and Maggie Roche, who clubbed a two-run shot. Lakeland beat Yorktown for the second consecutive day, 8-7, on the strength of a seven-run fifth inning. Cassie Kardias had two RBI and scored twice. Yorktown’s Cassie Reilly-Boccia drove in three runs. … Kennedy’s Devon DiSiena tossed a five-hitter and struck out 13, and also had two doubles and two RBI in a 9-1 win over Briarcliff. … Edgemont defeated Byram Hills, 9-8 behind Christine Salmon who went 3 for 3 with three RBI. … Scarsdale defeated New Rochelle for the second time this season, a 9-7 verdict as Kaitlin Silkowitz had four hits and three RBI. … Port Chester’s Kelsey Maloney had a grand slam and Jessica Forgione went 3 for 3 with three runs scored in a win over Poughkeepsie.

Tony P. How about covering teams other than Harrison ?

    Slapper –

Let’s take a look at the games I’ve covered this year: Scarsdale at Ursuline; White Plains at New Rochelle; Brewster at Hen Hud; John Jay at Pearl River; New Rochelle at Scarsdale; Harrison at John Jay; Briarcliff at Pelham; Dobbs Ferry at Tuckahoe; Hen Hud at Lakeland; Hen Hud at Yorktown; Albertus Magnus at Hastings and Lakeland at Brewster. I was scheduled to cover Pelham at Ardsley Monday, but the game was postponed.

So Slapper, after viewing this can please tell me how I am ONLY covering Harrison? Feel free to call me at 696-8234 to discuss this subject.

  3. slap this

Do you have a problem with Harrison????

  4. slapper

Tony P. RELAX, and take a chill pill. I did not say you are ONLY covering Harrison. Two blogs in the last week were about their games exclusively. Sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention. You will not be getting a phone call from me. I’s only a game. You do a great job of reporting, keep up the effort.

  5. Eagle1

At least Harrison gets some coverage. How would you like to be Eastchester? 17-1 and barely a mention anywhere!

  6. ROCKLAND SOFTBALL

Eagle 1..speak to us after they play Pearl River

  7. Eagle1

Last time I checked, Eastchester was in Westchester County not Rockland County. Also, last time I checked, Tony P covers Westchester County softball not Rockland County softball

  8. ROCKLAND SOFTBALL

All I’m saying is let’s talk about Eastchester when they beat somebody

    Eagle –

I guess you didn’t read the softball notebook Saturday on Eastchester senior 3rd baseman Ashley Tuccitto.

  10. Eagle1

No I did not..Sorry that I missed it. Still Eastchester gets very little coverage for a 17-1 team. however, I do enjoy reading your blogs. They are informative….Keep up the good work

Eastchester has blown out the majority of its opponents. The two games that I would have like to cover – Pelham twice – I was not assigned. I would much rather cover an Eastchester game against a quality team than a 5-inning blowout.

Why do you even bother acknowledging these parents whinning about their kid not getting enough ink from your paper! Maybe if they knew exactly what you did every day running around the county to different locations throughout the county they could better appreciate your efforts. I saw you yesterday at the Harrison game. You made a nice one-handed stop in foul territory while seated. Plus, you did not drop your pen or notepad! For the record my kid does not play for either team!

Can someone tell me what defines a good high school softball program? Is it better to play a hard or soft schedule? The most competitive leagues appear to be 1-B and 1-C. They have teams with overall records of .500, but from top to bottom all the teams are good.
However, there are teams that play a soft schedule and beat everyone and have a great record and then there are teams that play a hard schedule and have a losing record. In addition, this thought can also translate to player stats…what defines an all-county player?...teams that play a soft schedule..the team stats seem to be overstated because of the competition and teams that play a hard schedule..team stats seem to be understated as to how good a player is performing.

Word, Ballfielder. Tony, you do a great job covering as many games as you can. Parent should learn that the world does not revolve around their children – there are a bunch of other teams out there!! Keep up the good work, Tony!!

    In The Stands –

There is no question about it and coaches will say the same, you want your team to play a tough schedule because it prepares you for sectionals and state play. So what if your team has 5-6 losses heading into sectionals. If they are to quality teams/programs, then you know as a coach, that you did the best to have your team ready for the postseason.

Playing a cupcake schedule does not help your players and the inflated stats mean nothing. Unfortunately, it appears that stats play a role in whether a player is named all-section. Half the time, can you even trust the gaudy stats? I think it would be safe to say that there are many scorekeepers who don’t know how to keep a book.

hi tony can you explain tie-breaking rules and seeding process in regards to sectionals also does games played outside of section 1 count towards your win loss record
