High school softball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Tuesday’s Westchester/Putnam noteable

May
7

I saw an excellent windmiller’s duel today with Jacqueline squared – Crews of Dobbs Ferry facing Perri of Tuckahoe – with Dobbs Ferry prevailing, 3-0.

Jacqueline Crews allowed a fifth-inning Christina Manias bunt single that barely remained fair, tucked inside the first-base line, and she struck out nine. Perri scattered six hits and struck out 13, one day after fanning 14 North Salem hitters.

Both pitcher had no-no’s through three, but Grete Falck-Pedersen broke it with a 4th-inning RBI triple to deep right center, scoring Katie Martin. Dobbs Ferry added insurnace runs in the sixth and seventh.

Great job by both windmillers.

In other Tuesday action: Holy Child freshman Chloe Giordano continued her assault of the softball, smashing her 11th home run and driving in four. Senior Paige LaBella had three hits, including a jack, and knocked in three runs in a whitewash of Convent of the Sacred Heart. … Pleasantville’s Melissa Fanelli ripped a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, propelling the Panthers to a 9-8 win over Putnam Valley. … Mahopac scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh, capped by Amanda Farina’s RBI single, lifting the Indians to a 7-6 win over Ossining. … Rye’s Karley Fitzgerald doubled, tripled and had four RBI in Rye’s 5-4 win over Ardsley. Nicole Abbate blasted a two-run homer for Ardsley … Gorton’s Ashley Cardillo had a three-hitter and 13 Ks in a 12-3 win over Roosevelt. … Hastings’ Lena Trager threw a three-hitter and whiffed 11 in a shutout of Irvington. … Harrison’s Brianna Scaperotti doubled twice among her three hits in a 5-4 win over Mamaroneck. … Yorktown’s Kasey O’Connor and Cassie Reilly-Boccia homered twice apiece with O’Connor collecting six RBI and Reilly-Boccia three in a win over Horace Greeley. … Sleepy Hollow’s Danielle Fanelli tripled, doubled and had three RBI in a win over Nanuet as Deanne Lindsay fanned nine and yielded five hits. … Kennedy’s Devon DiSiena did not allow a hit in a 5-inning doubleheader sweep of Croton. … Our Lady of Victory scored three runs in the top of the 10th to outlast Cardinal Spellman, 10-8. Kristy Roberts and Dominique Antonucci had RBI singles in the 10th. … Hen Hud’s Nikki Tamburri struck out 10 and surrendered three hits in a shut out of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Thanks sis: Brewster rode the Bentson sisters to a 7-2 win as older sister Kim Bentson homered and doubled among her three hits and drove in two to aid younger sister Kelly Bentson, who allowed two hits and fanned six. I think this merits Kelly buying Kim lunch Wednesday at school or her coolata of choice at Dunkin Donuts.

If I missed a few, I apologize. Wednesday I will be heading to John Jay where the Indians will host Harrison.

    Hi Tony!!
I just wanted to show you as promised I’ve been following the blog and softball all season, especially now that I’m back in the country! :)

Tony… I got a team for you to watch come playoff time. JFK will surprise a lot of people. They have an outstanding pitcher in Devon DiSiena. They also just got Christina Marino back from an injury. They lost to 13-1 Eastchester 3-2 without Marino who is an excellent hitter. Another girl to watch is Pleasantvilles JR. Melissa Fanelli. She was 3 for 3 against DiSiena on Monday, and made one of the best catches in CF off the bat of Marino that I have ever seen. All three are JRs and will be back next year. Also don’t forget Natalia Stockinger another JR for Put Valley

    Erin –

    Welcome back from Moscow!
The Westchester/Putnam coaches miss you, as do the players. There is a groundswell of support to kick me back across the Tappan Zee Bridge and bring you back. I don’t blame the coaches!

Thank you! Finally some recognition for Kennedy on this site! This year, we have been working hard and backed by Devon’s great pitching and a great lineup we are first in our league. We look forward to making an appearance in sectionals, and hope to win our league.

Kennedy Softball is solid all around. Devon DiSiena and Brianna Sergio are a solid battery, and are having a great offensive and defensive season. Shannon McCormick and Laura Choma are providing the team leadership and really have stepped it up this year. Freshmen Alyssa DiGrandi has made an astounding transition from baseball to softball, and with Marino the infield is very solid. Katie Gannon, Veronica Amus and Sammie Conner have returned for their second varsity season in a big way . GO KENNEDY !
