Dana Bisaccia throws a five-hitter and strikes out nine as the Cornhuskers earn a split of the season set.
Bisaccia had a one-hitter through five innings, keeping Hen Hud off balance with a deadly chanegup Hen Hud scored twice in the sixth inning to even the score at 2-2, and had the bases loaded with two outs. She fell behind in the count, three balls and one strike, fought back and eventually struck out the Hen Hud player for the final out.
Yorktown answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The decisive run scored when Danielle Montesano got herself caught in a rundown, purposely. Hen Hud chased her back to first, but the throw went wide, allowing Tori Matzura to score from third. Yorktown also executed this rundown play in a two-run fourth inning. Larissa Porcelli added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single.
Following the game, Yorktown added a touch of class, presenting Hen Hud with a card and a donation to the fund set up for Hen Hud player Shannon Callagy, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. Hen Hud coach John Glashoff applauded and thanked the Yorktown fans for their heart-felt contribution.
“The captains read an article in the paper and agreed that we should give back, and donate because they knew how important that one player (Callagy) is to their team,” said Bisaccia after the game.
In other Westchester/Putnam action from Friday: Undefeated Rye Country Day School (8-0) handed Holy Child (8-1-1) its first loss of the season, 7-5. RCDS pitcher Jolie Berk allowed three hits and struck out nine. … Victoria Tiso slugged a home run and drove in five runs in Pelham’s win over Rye. Jules Carfora also jacked a homer. … Amy Carelli doubled, tripled and drove in three runs in Rye Neck’s victory over Blind Brook. … Kristy Roberts had three RBI and Laura Brezovsky homered and drove in two runs in Our Lady of Victory’s 6-1 win over Good Counsel. … Edgemont got its first win of the season, 11-3 over Briarcliff, behind four Chrissy Kozera RBI. … Arlington scored twice in the seventh inning to surpass White Plains, 3-2. Sarah Lorden drove in the White Plains’ runs.

I just want to thank the yorktown players and parents again for their very generous contribution. it really means a lot about the character of their team.
Great game and a touch of class from the Yorktown softball community.
Most of the time, on a off the field, High School Softball within Section 1, is usually highly competitive. The forums here are often laced with rivalaries and emotions flying. However, what was displayed by Yorktown and equally received by Hen Hud after yesterday’s game, is EXACTLY why the everyone should be so very very PROUD of each and every mameber of BOTH the Yorktown and Hen Hud Teams. People have to remember that there is life after High School Softball and “LIFE” is what it is all about. Young ladies acting well above their years and expressing respect, love, friendship and maturity is why we can have hope for the future. Way to go girls !!!
we really just want to thank yorktown again. it really means so much to us and shows a lot of character. we thank them and everyone for the support!
ps;; let’s go hud! ;]
For a change, it is nice to see people on these blogs talk nice about the young ladies who play softball with all their hearts and souls. As a coach I get to see, how this game can make these young ladies smile with joy or cry with sadness. To all the ladies that played for both school, I am proud of the sportsmanship that you showed to each other on Friday. It reminded me,why I became a coach in the first place.
