High school softball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Thank you coaches, parents and players.

June
12

Erin and I were honored to be invited to the All-Section dinner tonight. It is always a wonderful dinner, highlighting the players’ accomplishments on the season. Congratulations to all of the players tonight on your awards.

We were caught off guard though, by Pleasantville coach Gina Perino when she threw an 0-2 changeup past us. (We were expecting a riseball.) Perino complimented the job that Erin and I did covering softball this season. Thank you Gina for the nice words.

I do want to point out though, that it is the coaches, parents and players who deserve a huge thank you. If it wasn’t for the tremendous cooperation from these three groups, from coaches helping us with phone numbers, to parents giving their daughter a message that we called, to the player returning our call and being a great interview, then Erin and I would not be able to do our jobs.

I want to give a shout out to the players. Girls, after a long, taxing day of schoolwork followed by either a tough practice or game, the last thing you ladies need is a reporter, specifically an old, scary-looking individual such as myself, calling you at home for an interview or a post-game interview.

To all of the players I interviewed this season, whether it was after a game or by phone, thank you for always being cooperative with me and being great interviews.

I have received thank you’s from parents this season, which is appreciated, however, I always let them know that it was their daughter who did all the work. I had the easy part in that all I had to do was write about it.

Coaches, parents and players, thanks again for making the 2007 softball season enjoyable from a coverage standpoint.

  1. Another TZ Mom

    Tony,

I would like to thank you and Erin as well for the great coverage of the softball scene all season long. It has been fun and sometimes bizarre following the comments on the blog. Your involvement this year as the softball writer for Rockland helped to contribute to a fulfilling season and wonderful end to a long softball career for my daughter and her teammates. Thanks for making all of them feel special.

  2. A Coach's opinion

    Tony and Erin:

Thanks for a season of hard work writing about something you both seem to have a great passion for and keeping it about the players. You both do a great job!!

Can you tell me when the all section names will be published?

  3. TZ PARENT 2

Tony & Erin-this blog and your reporting made this year of HS softball so much more fun, and we were able to keep up with the teams of our friends. Thanks for the effort-we look forward to next year with you!

We appreciate the great coverage you gave to the Albertus Magnus softball team as they worked their way to the Class B Section 1 Title. The articles will definitely end up in my daughter’s and her teammates’ scrapbooks. Thanks for the recognition!

Thank you to Tony and Erin for a great blog season. (except for a few times when coin flips were needed to decide outcomes of games…)

    See ya next year!
