The lowdown for tomorrow

June
8

Well I hope everyone is excited about Hen Hud’s trip to the state final four tomorrow. I know I am and am hoping the Sailors bring home the title.
I just wanted to give everyone the 411 on the games.
Hen Hud’s semifinal is at 11 a.m. against Section 11 champion East Hampton at BAGSAI field #2. Like I said before, what I know of East Hampton is that their pitcher, Jessie Stavola has 340 strikeouts so far this season, setting the Long Island single season record.
If the Sailors win that game, they will face the winner of No. 2 South Glens Falls and No. 5 Victor at 3:30 p.m. at BAGSAI field #3. Victor upset defending Class A state champion Williamsville South and No. 1 ranked team in the state, in their regional final.
I will be there, hope to see lots of you as well!
And any FYI, the All Section dinnner is on Tuesday, we will publish the list of All Section selections in the paper sometime next week then.

Here is my thoughts relating to tomorrow’s State Final Four for all 5 Enrollment Classifications. Let’s see how many I get right (or if I have to finally eat that CROW)

    Class AA:

Shenendehowa vs. Binghamton: Shen has a very dominating pitcher and she is backed by some outstanding athletes, but I believe that Binghamton’s Cinderella Story will continue, given that the game is at their home field (BAGSAI) and the ride that Binghamton has been on, since Morabito.

    Long Beach vs. Frontier

Long Beach knocking off Mighty Bay Shore was quite an accomplishment. Frontier coming out of a tough Section 6 may have a bit of an edge, so I am going with Frontier in this one.

    AA Finals:

    Binghamton vs. Frontier:

A truly remarkable story comes true. As Al Michaels once said “Do You Believe In Miricles” I do ! Binghamton State Class AA Champions

    Class A

    Hen Hud vs. East Hampton:

Hen Hud has been strong all year long and have a very athletic team. East Hampton has not faced as tough of a schedule as Hen Hud has, so I will go with a stronger Hen Hud Team here.

    South Glens Falls vs. Victor:

This might be the “Game of the Day” to watch as these 2 teams “SLUG” it out. Victor capped its season off my knocking out the favorite, coming in, Williamsville South. So, I think that if Victor comes into this game a little flat, I would say that SGF has the edge. I am going with SGF in this game.

    Class A Championship:

Hen Hud vs. South Glens Falls:

SGF will be way too much for Hen Hud to handle. The State Final Class A Game was played earlier on (SGF vs. Victor). I will go with SGF as the NYSPHSAA 2007 State Class A Champions.

    Class B

    Marlboro vs. Fredonia

Coach O’Donnell has prepared the Lady Dukes very well for this game. Too Much Marlboro for our friends from the Western part of the State to handle. Marlboro advances.

    Susquehanna Valley vs. Cohoes

Becka Wiggins and SV has too much experience at States to lose to Cohoes, who will be way over matched in this game. I am going with SV in a big way

    Class B Championship Game

    Marlboro vs. Susquehanna Valley

Another great game to watch. This one may go extra innings, and I like the experience that Wiggins brings to the game, but somehow, I think that Coach O’Donnell will outcoach Coach Bidwell, given Jonnah O’Donnell’s vast coaching experience. Thus, Marlboro takes the Class B Crown

    Class C:

    Hoosick Valley vs. Westfield

HV has one of the most dominant pitchers in the State of New York. She has proven it all year long and it will be much the same in this game. Hoosick Valley wins this one very easily.

    Sandy Creek vs. East Rockaway

SC takes care of the Long Island School early on and “Coasts” to a win.

    Class C Championship

    Sandy Creek vs. Hoosick Valley

I like the pitching edge that Hoosick Valley has in this game and I will give the nod to HV to take on the Class C State Championship for 2007

    Class D

    Elba vs. Afton:

With Class D, is has been pretty much the same group of teams, year after year. This year is no different. Afton has been “The Force” in New York State Class D Softball for over 3 decades. Afton moves on.

    Chapel Field vs. Crown Point

Chapel Field will have to brush off some of the RUST that has collected on them, as they have not played a game since capturing the Section 9 Class D Championship. However, I like for them to kick out the rust and thus will be able to take out the Section 7 Class D School

    Class D Final

    Afton vs. Chappel Field

Gee, where have we seen this match up before. These 2 schools, in softball, don’t like each other very much. This will be another State Class D Championship Game Battle, with Coach Bostleman and Afton, squeeking this one out.

  2. Pugle1

Not likely that Marlbroro could knock off Sus Valley … they are a very experienced tema that playes a very challenging non-league schedule (including prestigious Morabito tourney).

  3. Hallie Lynhart

Well, for Class AA, I was TOTALLY WRONG. Long Beach beat Shen 1-0 for the State Class AA Title.

For Class A, Hen Hud went down 5-1 to East Hampton, to the shock of many people at BAGSAI. In the other game SGF beat Victor 1-0 in 8 Innings (in a game that I thought would go extra innings). The championship game is currently underway

For Class B, Marlboro got knocked off and SV won their first game, so SV went on to win the State Championship for Class B, 2-0 for their 3rd in a row
