Horace Greeley tournament

April
24

I spoke to Pearl River coach Mike Carlacci after his team’s game with Nanuet today and Carlacci gave me the breakdown on the Horace Greeley tournament this Saturday-Sunday.

The nine-team field is divided into a trio of three-team brackets:

Pearl River, Clarkstown South and Nyack are one bracket; Horace Greeley, Sleepy Hollow and East Ramapo are a second bracket and the third bracket features a clash of titans as Hen Hud and Clarkstown North will bang heads, joined by Harrison.

The first-place teams in each bracket will play a round-robin on Sunday, as will the second and third-place teams.

Calling for predicitions on the Hen Hud-Clarkstown North game so give me a shout.

Clarkstown North and Hen Hud were last year’s finalists in the Greely Tournament. The game was an exciting marathon with North winning in 12 innings. It was a shock to see that these two teams are scheduled in the first game on Saturday morning. As you said, it shapes up the same way as last year, with two very good teams “banging heads”. It is a shame that one team will be eliminated from Sunday’s championship action.

Could be the best match-up of the weekend. Too bad it will be played on Saturday…let’s just say home field advantage!!!

On paper this looked like a great game. However a terrible call at first base was critical in this game. With the bases loaded and two out the base umpire (who should have asked for help had just entered the game because the assigned umpire did not show up) called a runnner safe who was clearly out. This call allowed the fourth run for CN. The final outcome 4-3, if this call was made right, could have been different. Howeve both teams played and exceptional game. It is a shame that a bad call decided the outcome
